THE ROAD TO EMPATHY
Design Research / Adobe Premiere Video / Prototyping
Classmate Courtney Skabelund and I set out to measure the behavioral impact of a design intervention.
For our intervention we tested to see if we could make biking in Providence safer for cyclists.
Video documenting process, data collection and results of our experiment.
DEFINING THE INTERVENTION GOAL
CREATING THE PROTOTPYE
Court rode his bike along the same route at the same time of day alternating between having no plate (as a control),
the “little bro” plate and the “I love my life plate” on his bike. He wore two GoPro cameras for data collection.
Data was coded for the number of honks, to number of times a car came within the legal limit of 3 feet of the cyclist, and the number of times a car cut
off a cyclist according to traffic laws. Additionally, qualitative data was recorded on the cyclist’s comfort level during each ride.
